A ‘Mehrab’ is an integral part of Islamic architecture that is both functional and aesthetic. A niche in the wall, it points in the direction of the Kaaba, helping devotees orient themselves during prayer. This elegant arched form is also commonly depicted in carpets and prayer rugs.
This ivory kurta with its single line of silver embroidery on the yoke is inspired by the form of the Mehrab.
Paired with a Noor Dupatta and Wide Pants.

The Making of the Mehrab Kurta

A ‘Mehrab’ is an integral part of Islamic architecture that is both functional and aesthetic. This ivory kurta with its single line of silver embroidery on the yoke is inspired by the form of the Mehrab. In the image, our embroiderer, Hanifbhai, beats the metal embroidery of the Mehrab to give it its shine. This process is called pitta kaam.
