Vintage Skirt
Embroidery from a Rabari ghagro (skirt) from Kutch is reworked onto a dark burgundy organza silk skirt. The original skirt was of a similar colour but in thick, handwoven cotton. The body of the skirt is interspersed with barfi (diamond) motifs using the bavariyo stitch and beadwork. Made on request for a client for Garba, a 9-day festival celebrated in Gujarat where men and women dance in circles around the Mother Deity (Shakti / Amba / Durga), honouring her as the feminine divine and acknowledging the cyclical nature of life. During the dance, the Goddess remains the one unmoving symbol in the centre, while everything around her is in constant motion.
Paired with a backless choli (blouse) made from striped mashroo. Dupatta and blouse/choli sold separately.
