Description

This four-layer khadi cotton jacket with a silk lining features appliqué embroidery on a patchwork base inspired by a traditional Gujarati quilt called a godhri. This loose, comfortable style ends just above knee length and has pockets. The recycled patchwork is made from leftover cutouts from previous seasons in shades of blue and black.

This project provides work for a group of women from Pindharada village, Gujarat, recently taught sewing by Soach NGO as part of a livelihood-generation initiative. The appliqué embroidery is done by a separate group of women artisans who work from their homes in Ahmedabad.
