Description

This four-layer khadi cotton jacket with a silk lining features appliqué embroidery on a patchwork base inspired by a traditional Gujarati quilt called a godhri. This loose, comfortable style ends at mid-calf length and has pockets. The recycled patchwork is made from leftover cutouts from previous seasons in shades of madder and burgundy.

This project provides work for a group of women from Pindharada village, Gujarat, who were recently taught sewing by Soach NGO as part of a livelihood-generation initiative. The appliqué embroidery is done by a separate group of women artisans who work from their homes in Ahmedabad.
