Scenes from the Serengeti
Hand-painted artworks for digitally printed wallpaper, 80 feet x 10.5 feet.
The Serengeti wallpaper was created by artist Jisha Unnikrishnan for a private residence in Bengaluru in 2024. Working to a brief and visual reference from architecture firm NG Associates and their collaborator Home Stories, this customised wallpaper design was commissioned for a child’s room after a family trip to Africa. It is designed as an 80 feet long panorama that wraps around the room and depicts the vast grasslands of the Serengeti along with its tropical Savanna ecosystem - elephants and giraffes resting by a waterhole, a leopard hiding in the foliage of an Acacia tree, a travelling confusion of wildebeests, migratory birds across the sky, gazelles playing in the grasslands speckled with the characteristic Kopje rocks scattered across the landscape etc.
The hand-painted artworks were made almost to scale over a period of 4 months, and rendered in mixed media with watercolours, gouache and colour pencils.
