Description

The Nandan saree is inspired by a mythical garden of the same name, and features 24 medicinal and auspicious plants such as tulsi, parijat, aparajita, kadamb, kachnar, etc.

Artist Jisha Unnikrishnan created the drawings for this special commission keeping in mind Ari embroidery which was done using a single skein of thread, resulting in very fine, detailed work. The reference for composition and colour came from an 18th century Chintz textile, probably Gujarati in origin, also using Ari embroidery.
