This reversible all-weather jacket is entirely quilted with running stitches which are a feature of traditional Gujarati quilts known as godhris. Locally, this stitch is referred to as kabira, which gives this jacket its name. This loose, comfortable style ends at mid-calf-length and has pockets on the front and the reverse. The recycled patchwork is made from our leftover cutouts that we have assorted from previous seasons in shades of black. The other side consists of a shiny metallic silver fabric that is dressy and chic.
This project aims to create work for a group of women from Pindharada village, Gujarat, who have been recently taught sewing by Soach NGOas part of a livelihood generation initiative. The kabira embroidery is done by a separate group of women artisans who work from their homes in Ahmedabad.
