A long jacket with a shoulder slit opening, typical of an Afghan man’s garment. Handwoven khadi cotton base in a rich shade of red with a heavily embroidered yoke and cuffs in threadwork, and gold and silver zardosi interspersed with beads. The design of the yoke consists of a series of concentric arcs around the opening of the neck.

The Making of the Afghan Chogha

Work in progress on a madder red Afghan kurta, chain stitch in yellow and white in concentric arcs around the neck. This is the first layer to which subsequent layers of beadwork and zardosi metallic embroidery will be added for shine and dimension.
